The Importance of an Effective H.R. Manager

on March 26, 2012by DoMyLLCin Human Resources

Unlike some veteran employees who have already spent several years in the workforce, recent college graduates tend to have extremely positive attitudes and high levels of motivation. This ambition and drive is necessary to help the graduate find a job in an increasingly competitive market. When a recent graduate finally lands his dream job, he will be even more motivated to succeed in his endeavors than ever before. At this point, it is up to an effective HR manager to make sure that the new employee retains this positive attitude and stays productive in the workplace.

Expectation manager

An H.R. manager is an individual who oversees the activity of a company’s employees. He or she is responsible for ensuring that employees are satisfying their obligations and behaving professionally toward customers at all times. However, H.R. managers can do a lot more for a company than just make sure that employees meet minimum requirements. An effective HR manager creates a work environment in which employees want to excel. Instead of doing only what is mandated, employees working under a good manager will go above and beyond their job descriptions on a daily basis.

H.R. managers have a significant amount of control over a company’s work environment. For example, an effective HR manager with a lack of ambition creates an environment in which employees are bored and lackadaisical. Similarly, H.R. managers who lack people skills may cause employees to feel anxious and unhappy at work, which in turn leads to poor performance. Employees working in this situation may also feel insecure about their jobs, which pits them against one another and creates an atmosphere of competition.

Attitude leader

On the other hand, an H.R. manager with a positive outlook and an ambitious drive ignites these same qualities in the employees he manages. Employees working under such a manager will feel a sense of loyalty to him, which inspires them to produce their best work. An effective HR manager will also foster a sense of camaraderie among the company’s employees, thus encouraging them to work as a team for the good of the company.

Working as an H.R. manager is challenging, but it can be a rewarding experience if you possess the necessary qualities. A good H.R. manager should be able to build rapport with employees while still maintaining a position of authority. He must also be a self-starter who is capable of coming up with creative ways to improve the work environment and motivate the company’s employees to work hard on every project. H.R. managers must typically possess a business degree, such as a bachelor’s degree in human resource management.

H.R. managers are the backbone of an effective HR team. Good H.R. managers improve employee performance and efficiency, create productive work environments, and help the company to retain and attract the best personnel. For many companies, having an effective HR manager can mean the difference between an unhappy, anxious workforce and a team of professionals who consistently strive for excellence.
